ياO وَهبُWahb إِنَّindeed ناقَةًa she-camel
يا وَهبُ إِنَّ ناقَةً

أَظَمَأتَها فَوَرَدَت
O Wahb, indeed, a she-camel—
you made her thirsty, so she came to water,
وَنَفَرَتand she bolted شارِدَةًstraying
وَنَفَرَت شارِدَةً
فَأَبرَقَتthen she flashed lightning وَأَرعَدَتand she thundered
فَأَبرَقَت وَأَرعَدَت
and she bolted, straying away;
then she flashed lightning and thundered.
لَوif كُنتَyou were لمّاwhen وَرَدَتshe came to water
لَو كُنتَ لمّا وَرَدَت
عَقَلتَهاyou hobbled her ماnot شَرَدَتshe strayed
عَقَلتَها ما شَرَدَت
Had you, when she came to water,
hobbled her, she would not have strayed.
