لَو كُنتُ مِن أَولادِ يَحيى لَما

لَو كُنتُ مِن أَولادِ يَحيى لَما

زادَ وَلَو كانَ أَبوهُ أَبي

زادَ وَلَو كانَ أَبوهُ أَبي

If I were one of Yahya's sons, no increase

If I were among the sons of Yahya, never

would come—even if his father were my father—

Would his wealth increase mine, were his father my own father.

مِن مالِهِ مالي وَمِن جاهِهِ

مِن مالِهِ مالي وَمِن جاهِهِ

جاهي وَمِن مَركَبِهِ مَركَبي

جاهي وَمِن مَركَبِهِ مَركَبي

to my wealth from his wealth, nor from his standing

Nor would his status raise my status,

to my standing, nor to my mount from his mount.

Nor would his mount become my own mount.
