وَهَمَّ أَن يَنطِقَ فَاِستَحيا
He exchanged silent signals with me through his gaze.
My inspiration drew me to him,
And he was about to speak, but grew shy.
And it seemed he would speak, but shied away.

أَماتَ عَن ذا وَبِذا أَحيا
He unsheathed for me two swords from his glance.
He unsheathed for me two swords from his glance—
Through this he dealt death, and with that he gave life.
With one he killed, the other brought to life.
