وَكَلامٍ كَأَنَّما فُتِقَ المِس

وَكَلامٍ كَأَنَّما فُتِقَ المِس

ك بِهِ أَو تَنَفَّسَ الرَيحانُ

ك بِهِ أَو تَنَفَّسَ الرَيحانُ

And speech, as though musk were unsealed

Words as if the musk sack had been slit with a knife,

by it, or sweet basil breathed forth its fragrance;

wafting from it the smell or the meadowsweet breathed.

وَهوَ كَالخَمرِ رِقَّةً وَصَفاءً

وَهوَ كَالخَمرِ رِقَّةً وَصَفاءً

وَكَما اِلتَذَّ عَيشَهُ النَشوانُ

وَكَما اِلتَذَّ عَيشَهُ النَشوانُ

And it is like wine in delicacy and clarity,

Words like wine, exquisite and clear,

and like the pleasure a tipsy man took in his life.

sipped by lovers finding life more sweet.
