A veil—for if you appear, tears surge,

Becoming a screen for him, keeping him from view.

But if the eye's tears ebb, a spiteful enemy approaches,

Forcing the eyelids shut, already filled with terror.

And whoever buys my life from me in exchange for a death,

I shall sell him a life after which he will buy a grave.

And whoever buys my eyes in exchange for a sound eye,

I shall give him, besides my two eyes, a heart that refused patience.
