وتطايرَتْ من راحتي بيضُ المُنى

And my white wishes fluttered away from my palm,

The eggs of hope have flown from my nest

leaving me nothing but regret and weariness.'

قلتُ اصبري فالصبرُ يمْنَحُ أهْلَهُ

مهْما يَطُلْ حُلْوَ الحديثِ عنِ الوَطَر

I said, 'Be patient, for patience grants those who practice it—

however long it lasts—the sweetness of talk about desire.'
