Renew each morning

Renew each morning

a trace from the traces of yesterday;

A drawing from yesterday's outlines

ودَعي الناعينَ صَرْعى

ودَعي الناعينَ صَرْعى

خُشُباً عُمْياً وصُمَّا

خُشُباً عُمْياً وصُمَّا

and leave those announcing death struck down—

And leave the mourners lying down

blocks of wood, blind and deaf.

Deaf wood and mute

إنَّهم أضغاثُ حُلمٍ

إنَّهم أضغاثُ حُلمٍ

إنَّهم لغزٌ مُعَمَّى

إنَّهم لغزٌ مُعَمَّى

Indeed, they are tangled fragments of a dream;

They are confused dreams

indeed, they are an inscrutable riddle.

They are a covered riddle

سقطوا في حمأةِ العارِ

سقطوا في حمأةِ العارِ

فبئس القَوْمُ قَوْما

فبئس القَوْمُ قَوْما

They fell into the mire of shame—

They fell into the mire of disgrace

so what a wretched people they are!

What an evil people
