منwho كانused to يُغلقُclose دونَكِagainst you الأبواباthe doors؟
Do not ask me, coming and going,
Do not ask me constantly coming and going,
Who used to shut the doors against you?
Who was it that closed the doors on you?
لاdo not تسألينيask me أينَwhere إرثكِyour inheritance منfrom أبيmy father؟
بلrather أينwhere إرثيmy inheritance صارماًa sharp sword وكتاباand a book؟
Do not ask me: where is your inheritance from my father?
Do not ask me where is your inheritance from your father,
Rather, where is my inheritance—a sharp sword and a book?
But where is my inheritance, stern and scriptural?

I am bound, like you, in the prisons of illusion.
I am in the prisons of illusion like you, shackled,
I have poured out my life in sorrow and torment.
I wasted my life in sorrow and torment.

ياO أمُّmother إنif عَذُبَbecame sweet الحديثُthe talk وطاباand became pleasant
Falsehood is the hallmark of civilization, so beware,
Lies are the mark of civilization, so beware,
O mother, if the talk grows sweet and pleasant.
O mother, if talk were to sweeten and please.
