They said to me: Turn to the doors of sultans;
They told me, "Wait at the doors of the Sultans,
you will gain gifts that enrich you from time to time.
You will gain prizes that will satisfy for some time."

ولستand I am not أرضىcontent بغيرwith anything other than العلمknowledge وand الدينreligion
So I said: My Lord suffices me, and I am content with Him.
But I said, "My Lord is enough for me, I am content with Him,
And I am content with nothing but knowledge and religion.
And I am not pleased with anything other than knowledge and faith."

And I neither hope in nor fear anyone but my King,
I neither hope nor fear except my Master,
for He—exalted is He—enriches me and saves me.
For He suffices me and delivers me.

How could I entrust my affairs to those who are powerless
How can I entrust my affairs to those
to manage their own affairs, helpless as the destitute?
Who are unable to manage their own selves, the weakness of the poor?

Or how could love of worldly dross drive me to
Or how can the love of fleeting things drive me
the neighborhood of those whose homes are homes of devils?
To be near those whose abodes are the abodes of devils?

If I am sorrowful or have a need,
If I am grieved or if I am happy,
I call upon the Lord of the Throne—‘ayn before rā’ and shīn.
I call upon the One of seeing before the One of opinion.

And He is the Helper, for whom nothing is impossible;
He is the Helper whom nothing makes difficult,
and He brings into being whatever He wills, in any manner.
He is the Shaper, whatever the form He wills.

If He wills to hasten a matter, it comes swiftly;
If He wills to hasten a matter that was to be delayed,
or if He wills its postponement, it is delayed for a time.
Or wills to delay it, He delays it for a time.

O you who blame me, do not persist; cease reproaching me,
O you who blame, do not excessively blame me,
for I am not grieved by losing the world.
For I am not one who is saddened by their loss of the world.

If my fault is detachment from their worldly dross,
If my fault is asceticism in their fleeting things,
then that is a precious fault that does not disgrace me.
Then that is a fault of my own self, it does not shame me.
