    O master of justice, whose witnesses are upright,

    Rise—for excellence cannot turn away from you [reading uncertain].

    Rise as you wish, for your lofty station

    Is hard for whoever seeks it to attain, and towers high.

    For you are a master in the rulings of justice,

    A man of word and deed, as the noble have said.

    لَها غُرر مَعلومة وَحجول

    And your deeds are renowned in courts;

    They bear well-known forehead blazes and white leg-markings.

    فَلَيسَ سِواء عالم وَجَهول

    And you, of all men, most deserve glory and eminence;

    For the learned and the ignorant are not alike.

    And you are a scholar of legal principles, noble and well-born,

    A deputy—and such a man has no equal.

    So today we congratulate your office on having you,

    Even if what it holds is little compared with you.

    سَيرقي مَقاماً وَالمَقام جَليل

    For this is an office that comes alive in the courtyard of your justice;

    It will rise in rank, and that rank is august.

    That is why it chose none but you, and seeks

    Your approval of it; for the words spoken of you are fair.
