سَيدي مَحمود صَبري
قَدindeed أَتىhas come عيدa feast بِنَحرwith sacrifice
قَد أَتى عيد بِنَحر
My lord, Mahmoud Sabri—
My master, Mahmoud Sabri,
the Feast has come, bearing sacrifice;
A feast has indeed come with sacrifice,
وَلِسانand the tongue الأُنسof joy نادىcalled out
وَلِسان الأُنس نادى
حينَwhen وافىit reached كُلevery بَشَرmortal
حينَ وافى كُل بَشَر
and the voice of fellowship called out,
And the tongue of joy called out
as it reached every mortal,
When it reached every mortal,
قائِلاًsaying أَرختI composed a chronogram يَزهوis resplendent
قائِلاً أَرخت يَزهو
عيدناour feast الأَضحىof sacrifice بِصَبريwith Sabri
عيدنا الأَضحى بِصَبري
saying—I set its chronogram—“It shines:
Saying—I composed this chronogram—“Resplendent is
our Eid al-Adha, with Sabri.”
our Eid al-Adha with Sabri.”
