For our land is a pasture for you that never grows barren.

There you have lawful, wholesome sustenance.

على العدى لأهلها أعوانا

And it gladdened us to see the homelands

as allies to their people against the enemy.

فإن ذكرنا لكم ذنوبا

فإن ذكرنا لكم ذنوبا

كفَّرَها دفعُكُمُ الغريبا

كفَّرَها دفعُكُمُ الغريبا

So if we have recalled sins of yours,

your repelling of the foreigner has atoned for them,

وأنها وقائعٌ نفعتُمُ

وأنها وقائعٌ نفعتُمُ

مغلوبكم بها كما انتفعتمُ

مغلوبكم بها كما انتفعتمُ

as has the fact that they were battles in which you benefited

those you defeated, just as you yourselves benefited.

جرحتمونا كي تنبهونا

You wounded us to awaken us;

and they lulled us to sleep to shackle us.

وقد يجرِّبُ الفتى في جسمِهِ
