يا أغلبيَّة قوْمي في سياستهم

للعبء كل من اختاروه وانتخبوا

O majority of my people in their politics,

all whom they chose and elected to shoulder the burden:

وَقَرَّ في مصرَ رأيُ العاملين لها

وَقَرَّ في مصرَ رأيُ العاملين لها

من بعد ما اقتتلوا للرأي واحتربوا

من بعد ما اقتتلوا للرأي واحتربوا

And in Egypt the view of those who work for her has taken hold,

after they fought one another over opinion and waged war.

تحمَّلوا اليوم ما ألقتْه وانتظرت

تحمَّلوا اليوم ما ألقتْه وانتظرت

على نفوسكم الأقدارُ والصَحب

على نفوسكم الأقدارُ والصَحب

Bear today what has been laid upon, and expected of,

your souls by the fates and your companions.

ما كانَ أولَ ميدانٍ لخيلكمُ

ما كانَ أولَ ميدانٍ لخيلكمُ

هذا وآخر فرسان لكم وثبوا

هذا وآخر فرسان لكم وثبوا

Not the first arena for your horses was

this, nor were those who leapt forth your last horsemen.

أمامكم من جديد الحادثات إلى

أمامكم من جديد الحادثات إلى

خير المآل السبيل الوعر والسبب

خير المآل السبيل الوعر والسبب

Ahead of you, amid fresh events, toward

the best outcome lie the rugged road and the means.

لا تطمئنوا إلى حال وإن حَسنتْ

لا تطمئنوا إلى حال وإن حَسنتْ

فالجو يسكن حيناً ثم يضطرب

فالجو يسكن حيناً ثم يضطرب

Do not feel secure in any state, however good it is;

for the weather grows calm awhile, then turns turbulent.

لكم معاذيركم عندي وحجتكم

لكم معاذيركم عندي وحجتكم

وبينكم رَصَدُ الأعداءِ يرتقب

وبينكم رَصَدُ الأعداءِ يرتقب

In my eyes, you have your excuses and your case,

and among you the enemies' watchers lie in wait.

وهل تنال من الأغوالِ ألسنكم

وهل تنال من الأغوالِ ألسنكم

وحولكم منهُمُ الفولاذ واللهب

وحولكم منهُمُ الفولاذ واللهب

And can your tongues harm the ghouls,

while around you are their steel and flame?

حسب الحمى حفظكم منهم بَقيتَه

حسب الحمى حفظكم منهم بَقيتَه

حتى يهون عليكم ردُّ ما سلبوا

حتى يهون عليكم ردُّ ما سلبوا

It is enough for the homeland that you shield its remnant from them,

until recovering what they plundered becomes easy for you.

وإن يَجِئْ بقليلٍ نافعٍ زمنٌ

وإن يَجِئْ بقليلٍ نافعٍ زمنٌ

فقد يجيءُ سواه بالذي يجب

فقد يجيءُ سواه بالذي يجب

And if an age brings a little that is useful,

another may bring what is required.

والغُنْم أصدقُ بعدَ الغُرم يومئذ

والغُنْم أصدقُ بعدَ الغُرم يومئذ

للصابرين وقبل الراحةِ التعب

للصابرين وقبل الراحةِ التعب

And gain after loss is truer, then,

for those who endure; and toil comes before rest.
