أنا فتى الكون أنا ابن الشمس — أحمد الكاشف

أنا فتى الكون أنا ابن الشمسِ

أحرق من يبغي بسوء مسِّي

I am the youth of the universe, I am the son of the sun.

I burn whoever seeks to touch me with ill intent.

وهي أجل نسبةٍ وحسبِ

ولقبٍ في مشرق ومغربِ

And this is the noblest lineage and pedigree,

and title in the East and West.

فإن تكن دبّاً كبير الجثَّهْ

فإنني صِلٌّ شديد النفثَهْ

So if you are a bear of great bulk,

then I am a deadly serpent, fierce in spitting venom.

وإن تكن شيخاً طويل اللحيةِ

فإنني فتىً جميل الحليةِ

And if you are an old man with a long beard,

then I am a youth of handsome appearance.

وإن تكن أكثر مني عَدَدا

فإنني أكثر منك عُدَدا

And if you outnumber me,

then I surpass you in armaments.

لا خير في محتفظ بدينِ

إن لم تكن دنياه في تمكينِ

There is no good in one who holds fast to a faith

if his worldly life is not firmly established.

فما التماثيل التي نعظِّمُ

والنُصُبُ الشمُّ التي نكرِّمُ

For the statues we revere

and the lofty monuments we honor

إلا رموزاً للحياة القادرهْ

والاعتقاد بحساب الآخرهْ

are but symbols of powerful life

and of belief in the reckoning of the hereafter.

فإن عبدنا فالإله الواحدا

وإن رجونا فالرحيمَ الخالدا

So if we worship, it is the one God;

and if we hope, it is in the Merciful, the Eternal.

قد وهبتنا الملل الثلاثُ

حقوقها كأنها ميراثُ

The three faiths have indeed bestowed on us

their rights, as though they were an inheritance:

حرص النصارى وغنى اليهودِ

وغيرة الإسلام في الوجودِ

the Christians' zeal and the Jews' wealth,

and Islam's protective fervor in the world.

كأنما حاضرنا محمدُ

يحضُّنا على الوغى وينجدُ

As though Muhammad were present among us,

urging us to battle and coming to our aid.
