O master of overflowing literary gifts, congratulations

on the rule and authority that are your due today.

When people of virtue compete and race one another,

you are foremost among them in every arena.

Nor is ministerial office a prize for you to win,

but the burden of peoples and homelands.

Your allotted share has come at its promised time,

and you are the hope of equals and peers.

And you chose the sphere of morals to reform it,

and in your hands is the tool of one who tears down and builds.

You excelled in your first work of advocating it,

and today you excel in your second work for it.

Affection's due and duty, from my heart,

I have fulfilled for you on behalf of my companions and brothers.

May your tenure be an era of peace that you witness,

so the suffering world may be safe from the aggressor,

and the bearer of grudges find relief from them,

so none are seen between Saxons and Germans.

And may peace embrace all the people of the earth,

so no human being brutalizes another.
