1. حقليَ اليوم سعيدٌ

    برئيس الوزراءِ

    My field is happy today

    thanks to the prime minister.

  2. مر في الركب عليه

    بسلام الأنبياءِ

    He passed by it in the procession,

    with the greeting of the prophets.

  3. كاد يجري خلفه ما

    فيه من ظلٍّ وماءِ

    What nearly ran after him

    was all the shade and water it held.

  4. وتلقت ثمرات ال

    أرض عبء الأجراء

    And the fruits of the

    earth bore the burden of hired labor.

  5. فهي في الرخص حفاظٌ

    وهي يسرٌ في الغلاء

    So it is a safeguard when prices are low,

    and a source of ease when prices are high.

  6. فَكَّها من فَكَّ قومي

    من قيود الغرماء

    It was freed by him who freed my people

    from the creditors' chains.

  7. ووقاها البيع جبراً

    وهي في سوق القضاء

    And he shielded it from forced sale

    while it stood in the courts' auction market.

  8. خرجت من بنك أرنس

    تَ إلى بنك السماء

    It left Ernest's bank

    for the bank of heaven,

  9. تحمل الدين خفيفاً

    في مواعيد الوفاء

    bearing its debt lightly

    when repayments fall due.

  10. وسأبقى بعفافي

    في سجل الأغنياء

    And through my self-restraint I shall remain

    in the register of the wealthy.

  11. جلد الزارع عندي

    وخيال الشعراء

    I have the farmer's endurance

    and the poets' imagination.
