في مأمن من كل أمر محزنِ

في مأمن من كل أمر محزنِ

It was not enough for him that his subjects had become

It was not enough that the masses became

Safe from every sorrowful thing;

Safe from every saddening affair,

حتى نهى عن أن يخيَّل حادثٌ

حتى نهى عن أن يخيَّل حادثٌ

مبكٍ له تجري دموع الأعينِ

مبكٍ له تجري دموع الأعينِ

He even forbade the portrayal of an event

Until he forbade that any mishap be imagined

That brings tears streaming from the eyes.

With weeping flowing from the eyes.

مهلاً فقد صيَّرتَ ملكك جنة

مهلاً فقد صيَّرتَ ملكك جنة

للمؤمن الراجي وغير المؤمن

للمؤمن الراجي وغير المؤمن

Hold on—you have already made your realm a paradise

Wait, for you have made your kingdom a paradise

For the hopeful believer and the unbeliever.

For the hopeful believer and the faithless.

دعهم يروا تمثيل شقوة غيرهم

دعهم يروا تمثيل شقوة غيرهم

عظةً بكل مُحَكَّمٍ في موطن

عظةً بكل مُحَكَّمٍ في موطن

Let them see the enactment of others’ misery,

Let them see a dramatization of others' misery

As a lesson drawn from each ruler in his land,

An admonishment in every abode.

ليزيد أنفسهم بحكمك ضنةً

ليزيد أنفسهم بحكمك ضنةً

وتمسكاً بولائك المتمكن

وتمسكاً بولائك المتمكن

So that their souls may cherish your rule still more

So that they increase, by your rule, contentment

And cling more closely to their deep-rooted allegiance to you.

And adherence to your firmly established allegiance.
