وجئت مجيء السيف فارق غمدَهُ

وجئت مجيء السيف فارق غمدَهُ

You rose like the full moon after its concealment,

You rose like the rising full moon after its disappearance,

and came like a sword that has left its sheath.

And came like the drawn sword leaving its sheath.

ونلت على قدر الضنى حق أجره

ونلت على قدر الضنى حق أجره

وما كان أقساه ضنى وأشدَّهُ

وما كان أقساه ضنى وأشدَّهُ

You earned, in proportion to your suffering, its rightful reward.

You obtained the full reward for adversity,

And how cruel a sickness it was, how severe!

However severe and hard the adversity was.

وصابرت بلواه إلى أن تكشفت

وصابرت بلواه إلى أن تكشفت

كما صابر الملك المغير فردّه

كما صابر الملك المغير فردّه

You endured its affliction until it lifted,

You were patient with its trials until

as the king withstood the invader and drove him back.

They cleared, as the afflicted king endured patiently.

أراك لقومي في الحمى وكأنني

أراك لقومي في الحمى وكأنني

أرى قائد النصر المبين وجنده

أرى قائد النصر المبين وجنده

I see you there for my people in the homeland, and it is as though I

I see you for my people in protection, as if

see the commander of clear victory and his troops.

I see the evident leader of victory and his army.

وفضلك فضل المستعان على المدى

وفضلك فضل المستعان على المدى

رأى المستعين المرتضى فأمده

رأى المستعين المرتضى فأمده

Your merit is that of one ever sought for aid,

Your superiority is that of the Most Helpful through time;

who saw the worthy seeker of help and supported him.

The helped saw the desired, so he supported him.

ومن عاودته صحة العمر كله

ومن عاودته صحة العمر كله

فقد دفع الأعداء عن مصر وحده

فقد دفع الأعداء عن مصر وحده

And he to whom a whole lifetime's health has returned

He who renewed his health throughout life

has indeed driven the enemies from Egypt single-handedly.

Repelled enemies from Egypt alone.

ومن آثر الأكفاء واختار واصطفى

ومن آثر الأكفاء واختار واصطفى

رأى كل يوم في المحامد نده

رأى كل يوم في المحامد نده

And whoever favors the capable, chooses, and selects

He who preferred and chose the competent,

finds his equal in praiseworthy deeds each day.

Saw, each day, praise in his achievements.

وحسبك أن أعددت نفسك قدوة

وحسبك أن أعددت نفسك قدوة

لمن أنت راض مثلها أن تعُدَّه

لمن أنت راض مثلها أن تعُدَّه

It is enough for you to have prepared yourself as a model

It suffices you that you prepared yourself as

for anyone you are content to count as your equal.

An exemplar for those you wish to emulate you.

وأنت حبيب الشعب تحيي حياته

وأنت حبيب الشعب تحيي حياته

وعندك ما يرجو وترجوه عنده

وعندك ما يرجو وترجوه عنده

And you, beloved of the people, revive their life;

You, the people’s beloved, give life to their lives,

you have what they hope for, and they have what you hope for.

With you is what they hope for and hope from you.
