Will your complaint be checked by the presence before you

Of wrath that flares from threats into a blaze?

How could a free, refined man have a disposition

That tolerates humiliation and accepts coercion?

The afflicted man is in the right; leave him

With dispositions made into arrows against him.

    إِنّا خُلِقنا فاضِلينَ كِراما

    Do not be amazed at what you see of our conduct;

Indeed, we were created virtuous and noble.

We do not submit in pursuit, nor do we deem

    Time's hardship, however prolonged, ruin.

We face the tyrants of calamity unbowed,

And take on mighty adversities, mighty ourselves.

We count complaining of misfortunes a disgrace,

And deem servile pleading to kings forbidden.

We reject their arbitrariness and condemn their oppression,

And prepare them as servants for their peoples.

Your Lord did not will that their tyrants should be

    Gods among people, nor idols.

Eyes lower their gaze when they see their crowns,

And their thrones, their troops, and their banners.

    فَخُذوا الحَقائِقَ وَاِنبُذوا الأَوهاما

    Hold, sons of dust: guidance has been set forth;

So grasp the truths and cast illusions away.

And ask the kings, when their chamberlains appear

    Standing fearful around the curtains:

Can they ward off death when it takes aim,

Or command permanence upon their thrones?

All dominion and majesty belong to One,

The Self-Sufficient—He alone is blessed and exalted.

Indeed, by your life, we obey none but Him

In judgment, nor give anyone else the reins.

We defy kings when they stray from His command,

And abase rulers to win His pleasure.

We revere His followers and honor His party,

And preserve Islam after His Prophet.

And we love Him, and stand by His judgment

In love and conflict with our nearest kin.

We follow the manifest light; sufficient for us

As a guide are the clear signs of the Book.

It filled time with guidance and shone with wisdom

For all the worlds, and with mercy and peace.

The Trustworthy One descended with it; its wise teaching became

A clear covenant and pledge to God.

Glory for Ahmad, beyond reach, and eminence

That exhausts time and renders peoples powerless.

And an edifice of might whose sturdy fabric fears no

    Crack, nor dreads demolishers.

God secured its cornerstone and established it

As a pillar that shatters time and the days.

It demolished lofty thrones and reduced them

After awe and majesty, to dust.

They reached the station of the shining stars, then became

As though they had not even reached the feet.

They were trampled beneath conquerors' feet, and at times

The heads of those who sat upon them were trampled

By an army around whose banner Gabriel marched,

While the Prophet marched, daring and intrepid,

Urging onward every hero who affirms God's oneness,

Who prayed to the Lord of the worlds and fasted.

    He leveled certainty—a straightened spear—amid spear-thrusts,

And unsheathed it as a keen sword amid sword-blows.

    يَرضونَها نُزُلاً لَهُم وَمُقاما

    Gardens of Eden lie in the shade of their swords;

They gladly accept them as their lodging and abode.

They race toward their lofty dwellings,

Taking shade in goodness and bounty.

    Fires blaze behind their ranks,

And they see the gardens of bliss ahead.

They cannot, when armored warriors clash,

Falter or surrender in the thick of battle.

They seek God's pleasure for souls

That bear the heavy burdens of jihad.

With the sword's edge they raised a faith of guidance,

Which, but for their mighty deeds, would not have stood.

In every battlefield where death roars

And keeps hurling itself through its quarters,

Abundant blood flowed there in streams,

And martyrs lay gathered there in heaps.

Walls do not stand firm when you raise them,

Unless they are made of blood and bones.

And people, but for what their great ones accomplish,

Would attain no goal among the nations.
