مَنwho يُسعِدُbrings happiness to الأَوطانَhomelands غَيرُother than بَنيهاtheir sons
وَيُنيلُهاand grants them الآمالَhopes غَيرُother than ذَويهاtheir own people
Who brings happiness to homelands but their sons?
And who fulfills their hopes but their own people?
لَيسَis not الكَريمُthe noble man بِمَنone who يَرىsees أَوطانَهُhis homelands
نَهبَprey to العَواديmarauders ثُمَّthen لاdoes not يَحميهاprotect them
The noble man is not one who sees his homelands
Prey to marauders, then fails to protect them.
تَرجوthey hope for بِنَجدَتِهِthrough his aid اِنقِضاءَthe end of شَقائِهاtheir misery
وَهوَwhile he الَّذيis the one who بِقُعودِهِthrough his inaction يُشقيهاmakes them wretched
They hope his aid will bring their misery to an end,
Yet he is the one whose inaction makes them wretched.
وَتَوَدُّand they long for جاهِدَةًearnestly بِهِthrough him دَفعَthe warding off of الأَذىharm
عَنfrom نَفسِهاthemselves وَهوَwhile he الَّذيis the one who يُؤذيهاharms them
And they earnestly long for him to ward off harm
From themselves, yet he is the one who harms them.
سُبُلُthe paths of المَكارِمِnoble deeds لِلكِرامِfor the noble قَويمَةٌare straight
فَعَلامَso why يُخطِئُهاmisses them الَّذيthe one who يَبغيهاseeks them
The paths of noble deeds are straight for the noble;
So why does the one who seeks them miss them?
ماhow أَكثَرَnumerous are المُتَفاخِرينَthose who boast وَإِنَّماyet only
فَخرُthe pride of الكِرامِthe noble بِماin what حَبَتhave bestowed أَيديهاtheir hands
How many are those who boast! Yet
The noble take pride only in what their hands have bestowed.
يَحويgathers الكَريمُthe noble man المالَwealth لاnot يَبغيseeking بِهِthrough it
شَيئاًanything سِوىexcept أُكرومَةٍa noble deed يَحويهاhe achieves
The noble man gathers wealth, not seeking through it
Anything but a noble deed he may accomplish.
وَالجودُand generosity يُحمَدُis praised حَيثُwherever كانَit is وَخَيرُهُand its best
ماthat which نالَreaches أَوطانَthe homelands of الفَتىthe young man وَبَنيهاand their sons
And generosity is praised wherever it is found; its best form
Is what reaches a young man's homelands and their sons.
وَلَقَلَّماand indeed seldom أَرضىsatisfies اِمرُؤٌa man أَوطانَهُhis homelands
حَتّىuntil تَراهُyou see him بِنَفسِهِwith his own life يَفديهاransoming them
And seldom does a man satisfy his homelands
Until you see him ransom them with his own life.
ياO آلَpeople of مِصرَEgypt وَماand no one يُؤَدّيfulfills حَقَّهاher due
إِلّاexcept فَتىًa young man يَكفيwards off الَّذيwhat يَعنيهاtroubles her
O people of Egypt, none can pay her due
But a young man who wards off what troubles her.

يلهوplays ويمرحand makes merry كلَّevery آنٍmoment فيهاwithin her
Would a wealthy man among you withhold aid,
While he plays and makes merry within her at every moment?
هيshe أمُّكُمyour mother لاmay not كانَbe مِنamong أَبنائِهاher sons
مَنwho لاdoes not يُواسيهاsupport her وَلاnor يُرضيهاplease her
She is your mother; may none be among her sons
Who neither supports her nor pleases her.
وَهَبَتكُمُshe bestowed upon you الخَيرَgoodness الجَزيلَabundant فَهَلso is there فَتىًa young man

She has given you abundant goodness; so is there a young man
Among you to repay her for her gracious deeds?
سَعِدَتshe prospered لَعَمريby my life بِالصَنائِعِthrough crafts حِقبَةًfor an age
وَلَّتpassed away عَلىin عَجَلٍhaste فَمَنso who يَثنيهاwill bring it back
By my life, she prospered through crafts for an age
That swiftly passed—so who will bring it back?
لَوif يَسمَعُcould hear المَوتىthe dead الهُمودُlying motionless مَقالَتيmy words
أَسدواthey would bestow إِلىupon الأَوطانِhomelands ماwhat يُغنيهاmeets their needs
If the dead, lying motionless, could hear my words,
They would bestow on homelands what would meet their needs.

The House of Crafts is the finest house to build;
So God will reward with goodness whoever builds it.
