    وَاِبعَثِ النُوَّامَ مِن خَلفِ السُتُرْ

    Warn the peoples—if warnings could avail;

    And rouse the sleepers from behind the curtains.

    إِنَّما يَحمي حِماهُ مَن نَفَرْ

    Go forth, whether scattered or in bands;

    Only he who goes forth protects his domain.

    Rescue the homelands from their overwhelming distress,

    And dispel it—a gloom that will not recede.

    Are you content to be a nation

    That mourns its independence throughout the ages?

    Its richest store, whenever it takes fright,

    Is burning anguish and streaming tears.

    Our momentous day—no day shall be ours

    If we squander it and it passes and is gone.

    A person's life is but an hour,

    Then nothing, however long life lasts.
