طار الكرى واستبان الأمرُ والشّانُ
Tell those who slept while justice kept watch:
Tell the dear ones to sleep while justice is awake
Sleep has fled; the matter and its import stand clear.
Destiny has taken flight and truth and rank are clear

What did you think of it—this power that has proved true?
What strength did you think it had that you believed it
For events demand acknowledgment and submission.
Events now acquiesce and yield

If truth and faith appeal to you.
If you find sincerity and faith pleasing

The expected misfortune was unveiled and your hopes
Are your hopes: they are pains and sorrows.

Were it not for ignorance, no madman would have hailed it,
If not for ignorance no raving fool would be alive
Hoping for the impossible, nor any thirsty man sought rain from it.
Hoping for the impossible, no thirsty man would beg for water

All the clouds are useless if they wait
The quenching of burning thirst, and every effort is loss.
For abundant rain, all effort is loss

They announced good tidings to the boys before they knew
Until they learned that they themselves were children among the people.
That among the people they are but boys

If her suffering spends the night far from them, itself drowsy?
When its harm and vanity and idolatry have passed

No phantom of power distracted their fancies
Without longing and yearning returning to them.
Without kindling in them yearning and infatuation

Lovers found solace, and their breasts were moistened,
The lovers asked about him so their wings were tested
Yet they have no solace from it through all time.
And they will never stop yearning for him

From every rib by a volcano of rage.
From every wing hot lava of anger flows

Your tears of pity are wasted in love
Are the tears of an eye that streams and pours.
The tears of an eye that is ill and straying

Then I would heal you: people are brothers.
For people are siblings, they seek compassion

That nothing but truth should wield authority.
Falsehood has no power, only truth prevails

Kinship calls him and he attains it
While calamity rages and the people are bewildered.
Speech contends and the people are confused

He sails it on while time's assaults are a deluge.
He sails it through the tempest of fate's vicissitudes

By the fact that these people have neither intellects nor minds.
Because the people lack minds and intellects

Rule in the view of the wise has four aspects
Resolve, firmness, kindness, and beneficence.
Resolve, discretion, kindness, and beneficence
