    Rule is fairness and sound governance.

    So when you rule, do not be a tyrant.

    هَلّا ذَكَرتَ الواحِدَ القَهّارا

    You have terrified souls with a despot's crushing might;

    why did you not remember the One, the All-Subduing?

    Moses' Pharaoh had more supporters

    and was fiercer than you in oppression and arrogance.

    God destroyed his kingdom and cast him

    into the depths of a murky sea hurling forth torrents.

    فَهَوى وَأَغرَقَ جَيشَهُ الجَرّارا

    He heaped the surging waters upon him as he walked through it;

    so he sank and drowned his vast army.

    Can you, then, ward off your Lord's onslaught if it comes,

    or do you control destinies apart from Him?

    Make it your path to refrain from causing harm,

    and take gentleness and deliberation as your watchword.

    The breath of the weak, when it resounds in complaint,

    demolishes fortresses and shakes the ramparts.
