Restore to us the triumphant age of struggle,

And add to it an age of beauty and splendor.

And press on with us: life is a series of stations,

And we have grown weary of the laggard's station.

Then how near life would be to us,

If we exchanged a place to stand for a place to soar!

    فَما مَلَكَ الدُنيا كَشَعبٍ مُثَقَّفِ

    Take heed: educate the people whose fortune sleeps;

For none has ruled the world like an educated people.

Take heed, then look upon the eagles' world, and race

Every eagle beating its wings there toward glory.

They called it life; whoever spends the night content with it

Spends the night a wreck wasted by a deadly illness with lingering aftereffects.

I see every vigorous striver ascending toward glory,

With resolve—whenever he mounts its two wings, he sweeps like a gale.

Toward the highest horizon, sons of Egypt, rise

Swiftly, and repel the swooping marauder's raid.

Toward the furthest goal, then march rightly guided,

And forsake the path of the bewildered, aimless wanderer.
