    Repeat the tales of Amr and Umar.

    Repeat them, tale after tale.

    state is built, nor sovereignty sought.

    Cast off the fetter, for too much time has passed.

    Will yesterday and today be wasted in vain?

    اخلَعيهِ وَاِرفَعي عَنكِ الغُمَمْ

    Do not say 'Tomorrow' if the caller calls;

    cast it off, and lift the gloom from yourself.

    our souls venture into the perilous fray.

    We are your champions if fate brings terror,

    and the people depart, turning their backs.

    إِنَّما الدينُ عُهودٌ وَذِمَمْ

    We keep the covenant and defy whoever betrays it;

    religion is but covenants and obligations.
