Why did you not call for something other than battle?
Why not call for other than fighting?

Qays was not ignorant in giving counsel;
Qays was not ignorant in advice,
Rather, he knew better what was right, and was more prudent.
But he was more knowledgeable of right and determined.

He warns you not to do so, fearing it
Aflame, its sides streaming with blood.
Would run with its sides flowing blood.

Marching toward Qatan as irrevocable fate.
Walking to Al-Qatan to fulfill a decided decree.

It is the destination, he wants no other,
Destination or goal for the edges of keen swords.
As a place for the ships and appointed location.

Go on your way if you want the booty.

Indeed, those who made you their scout insisted
The nobles have made you their guide, they refused
On generosity alone—how virtuous and noble they are!
Except generosity, never has there been more noble.

You prepared the humiliating cowardice to make peace,
So you both perished; thus perishes the blind.
So you are destroyed, and likewise are those blind.
