هُوَ النَّصْرُ يا تَيْمَاءُ يَتبعُهُ النَّصْرُ

هُوَ النَّصْرُ يا تَيْمَاءُ يَتبعُهُ النَّصْرُ

فإن كُنتِ في رَيْبٍ فقد وَضَحَ الأمرُ

فإن كُنتِ في رَيْبٍ فقد وَضَحَ الأمرُ

It is victory, O Tayma, followed by victory.

Victory, O Taima, victory follows

So if you are in doubt, the matter has become clear.

If you have doubt, the matter is clear

دَعِي الرُّسْلَ تَمضي ما عليكِ مَلامَةٌ

دَعِي الرُّسْلَ تَمضي ما عليكِ مَلامَةٌ

وكيف يَعافُ الأمنَ من غَاله الذُّعْرُ

وكيف يَعافُ الأمنَ من غَاله الذُّعْرُ

Let the messengers proceed; no blame rests on you.

Leave the messengers to go on, no blame on you

And how can one overwhelmed by terror spurn safety?

How can security disregard the panic of horror?

فإن تَخفضي منكِ الجَناحَ لِتَنْعَمِي

فإن تَخفضي منكِ الجَناحَ لِتَنْعَمِي

بأفياءِ عيشٍ ساكنٍ فَلَكِ العُذْرُ

بأفياءِ عيشٍ ساكنٍ فَلَكِ العُذْرُ

So if you lower your wing to enjoy

If you lower your wing to enjoy

The shade of a tranquil life, you have your excuse.

A settled, serene living, you are excused

وهل يَرفعُ العصفورُ يوماً جَنَاحَهُ

وهل يَرفعُ العصفورُ يوماً جَنَاحَهُ

إذا حَلَّقَ البازِي أو انطَلَقَ النَّسْرُ

إذا حَلَّقَ البازِي أو انطَلَقَ النَّسْرُ

And does the sparrow ever raise its wing

Does a bird ever raise its wing

When the hawk soars or the eagle takes flight?

When the falcon swoops or the eagle takes off?

إذا أمسكَ الصَّبرُ البلادَ وأَهْلَها

إذا أمسكَ الصَّبرُ البلادَ وأَهْلَها

فليس على هذا قَرارٌ ولا صَبْرُ

فليس على هذا قَرارٌ ولا صَبْرُ

If patience holds the land and its people fast,

When patience seizes the country and its people

There is no repose in this, nor endurance.

There is then no settlement or patience

ألم يكُ أهلُ الأرضِ مَوْتَى فجاءهم

ألم يكُ أهلُ الأرضِ مَوْتَى فجاءهم

رَسُولُ حياةٍ دِينُهُ البَعْثُ والنَّشْرُ

رَسُولُ حياةٍ دِينُهُ البَعْثُ والنَّشْرُ

Were the people of the earth not dead? Then there came to them

Were not the people of the earth dead then came

A messenger of life, whose faith is resurrection and revival.

A messenger of life whose creed is resurrection and dispersal?

أبى أن يَظَلُّوا آخِرَ الدَّهرِ فوقها

أبى أن يَظَلُّوا آخِرَ الدَّهرِ فوقها

يَسيرونَ في الأكفانِ وَهْيَ لهم قَبْرُ

يَسيرونَ في الأكفانِ وَهْيَ لهم قَبْرُ

He refused to let them remain upon it until time's end,

They refused to remain on it to the end of time

Walking in shrouds, with it as their grave.

Walking in shrouds which are to them a grave

حَياةُ الدُّنى في سَيْفِهِ وكِتَابِهِ

حَياةُ الدُّنى في سَيْفِهِ وكِتَابِهِ

وما منهما إلا لها عنده سِرُّ

وما منهما إلا لها عنده سِرُّ

The life of the worlds lies in his sword and his book,

The life of this world is in his sword and book

And in each of the two he holds a secret for that life.

Both have for it in his view a secret

لَكِ الأمنُ يا تَيْماءُ لا الدَّمُ دَافِقٌ

لَكِ الأمنُ يا تَيْماءُ لا الدَّمُ دَافِقٌ

ولا النَّفْعُ مُسْوَدٌّ ولا الجَوُّ مُغْبَرُّ

ولا النَّفْعُ مُسْوَدٌّ ولا الجَوُّ مُغْبَرُّ

Safety is yours, O Tayma: no blood gushes forth,

You have security, O Taima, no oozing blood

Nor is benefit blackened, nor the air dust-laden.

No darkened prosperity, no dusty atmosphere

ولا أنتِ ثَكْلَى ما تُغِبُّكِ لوعةٌ

ولا أنتِ ثَكْلَى ما تُغِبُّكِ لوعةٌ

مُؤجَّجةٌ كالجمرِ أو دونها الجمرُ

مُؤجَّجةٌ كالجمرِ أو دونها الجمرُ

Nor are you bereaved; no anguish revisits you,

Nor are you bereaved however much anguish that grieves you

Blazing like embers—or fiercer than the embers.

Blazing or less than blazing embers

أعانَكِ رأيٌ أبصَرَ القصدَ فانْتحَى

أعانَكِ رأيٌ أبصَرَ القصدَ فانْتحَى

بأهلِكِ ما لا يَنْتَحِي الجاهلُ الغِرُّ

بأهلِكِ ما لا يَنْتَحِي الجاهلُ الغِرُّ

A judgment aided you: it saw the right course and steered

A purposeful opinion has helped you

Your people where the ignorant fool would not steer.

To move your family from what an ignorant fool endures

ولو آثروا الإسلامَ دِيناً لأفلحوا

ولو آثروا الإسلامَ دِيناً لأفلحوا

ولكنّه الشِّركُ المُذَمَّمُ والكُفْرُ

ولكنّه الشِّركُ المُذَمَّمُ والكُفْرُ

And had they chosen Islam as their religion, they would have prospered,

Had they chosen Islam as religion they would have prospered

But it is condemned polytheism and unbelief.

But polytheism it is, blemished and blasphemy

أَبَوْا وَتَولَّوا يَشترُونَ نُفُوسَهم

أَبَوْا وَتَولَّوا يَشترُونَ نُفُوسَهم

بأموالِهِم هذا هو الغَبْنُ والخُسْرُ

بأموالِهِم هذا هو الغَبْنُ والخُسْرُ

They refused and turned away, buying their lives

They refused and turned away buying their souls

With their wealth—this is a bad bargain and loss.

With their money - this is the loss and waste

يُؤدُّونَها من خِيفَةِ القتلِ جِزْيَةً

يُؤدُّونَها من خِيفَةِ القتلِ جِزْيَةً

على الهُونِ ممّا يرزقُ الحَبُّ والتَّمْرُ

على الهُونِ ممّا يرزقُ الحَبُّ والتَّمْرُ

They pay it as tribute, for fear of being killed,

Paying it out of fear of being killed as a poll tax

In humiliation, from what grain and dates provide.

In humiliation from what provides dates and dried dates

أقاموا يُريدونَ الحياةَ بأرضهِمِ

أقاموا يُريدونَ الحياةَ بأرضهِمِ

وكيفَ حياةُ القومِ إن فَسَدَ الأَمْرُ

وكيفَ حياةُ القومِ إن فَسَدَ الأَمْرُ

They remained, seeking life in their land,

They stay wanting life in their land

And what life can the people have if affairs are corrupt?

Yet how can the life of people be when matters go wrong?

رُوَيْدَ الأُلَى اختاروا الضلالةَ خُطَّةً

رُوَيْدَ الأُلَى اختاروا الضلالةَ خُطَّةً

فَتِلكِ وإن لم يعلموا خُطَّةٌ نُكْرُ

فَتِلكِ وإن لم يعلموا خُطَّةٌ نُكْرُ

Give those who chose error as their course a little time;

Take it easy, champions, they have chosen error deliberately

For that, though they do not know it, is an abhorrent course.

That, though they know it not, is an odious track

يَضِلُّونَ والفَجرُ المنوِّرُ طَالِعٌ

يَضِلُّونَ والفَجرُ المنوِّرُ طَالِعٌ

ولا عُذْرَ للضُّلّالِ إن طَلَعَ الفَجْرُ

ولا عُذْرَ للضُّلّالِ إن طَلَعَ الفَجْرُ

They go astray while the radiant dawn is rising,

They go astray though the illuminated dawn has risen

And there is no excuse for those astray if dawn has risen.

No excuse for the strayers when dawn has broken

لِكُلِّ أُناسٍ مُدَّةٌ ثُمّ تَنجلِي

لِكُلِّ أُناسٍ مُدَّةٌ ثُمّ تَنجلِي

عَمَايَتَهُمْ فَلْيَصْبرُوا إنّه الدَّهْرُ

عَمَايَتَهُمْ فَلْيَصْبرُوا إنّه الدَّهْرُ

Every people has its span; then clears

For all peoples there is a term, then their

Their blindness—so let them be patient: it is Time.

Darkness is lifted, so let them be patient, for such is fate
