Here, O nobles of the Azd, set down your baggage.
For how pleasant is this abode and how noble this refuge
For how pleasant is the abode, and how noble the sanctuary!
For whoever hopes to succeed and gain
هناhere البِرُّrighteousness والتَّقوىand piety هُناhere الخيرُgoodness كُلُّهall of it

Here are righteousness and piety; here is all goodness,
Seeks other than it, a home or encampment
for whoever hopes to attain success and gain.
Come now, O son of Abdullah, focus your eyes and kindle
هُناhere المنزلُthe abode الميمونُblessed ماnot منany مُوَفَّقٍone granted success

Here is the blessed abode; no one granted success
From the light that illuminates what was dark to them
desires any other dwelling or campsite.
God has guided you, you are a seer
أجِلْturn about ياO ابنَson of عبدِAbd (servant of) اللهِAllah عينَيْكَyour two eyes واقْتَبِسْand draw

Turn your eyes about, O son of Abd Allah, and draw
The best of all people in the world altogether
from the light what dispels the deep darkness from them.
Your Lord has guided you with it, His creation perceiving

Look closely—may God guide you—for you behold
So He has granted with it a clear light and blessed
the most exalted and greatest of all the world's sons.
And entrusted you leadership of the people, pressing onward
هَداكمguided you all بهthrough him رَبٌّa Lord تَدراكَcame to the aid of خَلْقَهُHis creation

A Lord guided you through him, coming to His creation's aid,
With the men who come after, though blind
and gave him generously as a manifest light, bestowing grace.
Jarash complained of the length of the siege, but not

And he entrusted you with command of the people; you go forth, fighting
Did your resolves complain, which God has targeted who He targeted
with them against those nearby—men possessed of blindness.
You returned intending trickery, so the illusion

Jarash complained of the siege's length, but no complaint came
Of harm perturbed its builder, who imagined
from your lofty resolve, with which God strikes whomever He strikes.
Sakhr saw in their talk and your affliction
رجعتمyou turned back تُريدونَyou seek المكيدةَthe stratagem فَاعْتَرىso there befell
أذىthe anguish of الوهمِdelusion منamong عُمَّارِهاits inhabitants منwhoever تَوهّماimagined falsely
You turned back, seeking a stratagem; then there came
Scenes that shook him, so he greeted and surrendered
the anguish of delusion upon those of its inhabitants who held false notions.
Were you as they supposed, fearing their might?
رأىsaw شَكَرٌShakar منin خطبِهمtheir plight وبلائِكُمْand your valor
مشاهِدَscenes هَزَّتْهُshook him فحيَّاso he greeted وسَلّماand he offered peace
Shakar saw, in their plight and your valor,
Should it not suffice them to mock the sword and blood?
scenes that shook him, so he offered greetings and peace.
They are God's sacrifices, gone astray, so what can they do
أكنتمwere you? كماas ظنّواthey supposed تخافونَyou fear بأسَهُمْtheir might
ألمdid ... not? يَكْفِهِمْsuffice them أنto يُضحِكواthey make laugh السَّيْفَthe sword والدَّماand the blood
Were you, as they supposed, afraid of their might?
Except meet the slaughter, an unavoidable decree?
Was it not enough for them to make the sword and blood laugh?
Thus spoke the truthful one, the righteous, he
هُمُthey البُدْنُthe sacrificial camels بُدْنُsacrificial camels of اللهِGod ضَلَّتْthey went astray فمالهاso they have nothing
سِوَىexcept النَّحرِsacrificial slaughter تَلْقاهُthey meet it قضاءًa decree مُحَتَّماinevitable
They are sacrificial camels, God's sacrificial camels gone astray; so they have nothing
Will meet what he meets of inspired words
but slaughter, which they meet as an inevitable decree.
Were they a tale about the two messengers, told
كذلكthus قالsaid الصادِقُthe truthful one البَرُّthe righteous one إنّهindeed he
لَيُلْقِيhe surely utters الذيwhat يُلْقِيhe utters منof القولِspeech مُلْهمَاinspired
Thus spoke the truthful, righteous one; he
To their people, or were they a defiant army?
surely utters the words he utters as one inspired.
The two warned them, so they desisted their misguidance
أكانَwas it? حديثاًa message للرسولَيْنِto the two messengers ساقهhe conveyed it
لقومهماfor their people أمor كانwas جَيْشاًan army عَرَمْرماvast
Was it a message he conveyed to the two messengers
And said, "A messenger has come with upright religion."
for their people, or was it a vast army?
And God's light filled their dwellings
هُماthe two of them نبّآهمthey both informed them فَارْعَوَوْاso they desisted عنfrom ضلالِهمtheir error
وقالواand they said رسولٌa messenger جاءَcame بالدِّينِwith the faith قيِّماupright
The two informed them, so they turned from their error,
Illuminating what was dark before
and said, 'A messenger has come with the upright faith.'
وأصبحand became نورُthe light of اللهِGod مِلءَfilling ديارِهمtheir dwellings

And God's light came to fill their dwellings,
illuminating for them what had been dark before.
