Certainty has become clear to whoever sees or hears.
Certainty became clear to those who see or hear,
And seldom do conjectures avail or help.
While suppositions seldom avail or benefit.

Victory is certain, and the herald is truthful.
Victory is truth and the warner is truthful,
And woe to the deluded man—what can he do?
Woe to the deluded one - what will he do?

Bow humbly, Abu Lahab; for though you may be blind,
Be humble, O Abu Lahab, for if you remain blind,
Mecca's mountains and gravelly valleys bow humbly.
The mountains of Mecca and its plains will be humbled.

The freedman of God's Messenger is beaten; he committed no
The master of Allah's Messenger is struck for a sin he did not commit,
Sin, nor was he a liar taking sides.
And he was not a liar to be attached.

These, Abu Lahab, are his Lord's battalions,
It has come down, O Abu Lahab, the forces of his Lord,
They descended to humble the unbelievers and subdue them.
To debase the disbelievers and crush them.

Lubaba secured the weak man's rightful due,
The weak took their right with justice,
And retribution took its course: you are subdued and in pain.
And the punishment was carried out, so you are now suffering pain.

And she healed him of you with a blow that did not cease,
It removed him from you with a blow from which he did not recover
Until it struck you with an illness that does not abate.
Until it cast you with an affliction from which you will not recover.

She said, 'You oppressed him and deemed him weak
It said you wronged and weakened him
Because his master was absent and refuge was hard to find.'
When his master was absent and difficult times came.

There is no doubt about the pole or your head:
Neither the pillar nor your head are safe from doubt,
Indeed, the wayward man is deterred by such means.
For the deviant is deterred by the likes of this.

Hail, Umm al-Fadl! That is a noble deed,
You have brought to life Umm Al-Fadl - what a virtuous deed!
In it lies your most exalted, most unassailable honor.
Through her you attained the most precious and protected honor.

God destroyed him with a disease that has no
May Allah destroy him with a malady that has no cure,
Healer, and offers no physician any hope.
No remedy can heal it, and no despairing person hopes for it.

Glad tidings go forth, roaming far and wide, while through
Good tidings go around and around in his blood,
His blood the poisons course, and his skin tears apart.
So his skin splits and fragments.

He who boasted of his many men became detested,
The boastful man has become hated amongst men
Shunned though his dwelling is near, and cut off.
He is shunned at the tombs and cut off.

The pole's thunderbolt consumed him; yet it was only
The pillar’s thunderbolt devoured him, but rather,
Seven hungry nights that consumed him thereafter.
A beast devoured him after that, ravenously hungry.

They abandoned him for three days in his house;
They abandoned him for three days in his house,
Neither does the house spit him out, nor does he depart.
Neither did the house spit him out, nor did he come out.

Hands avoid the perils of his disease,
Hands avoid touching the pus of his disease,
So he is shoved with long timbers and pushed along.
So he is left with long planks and discarded.

They cast stones on him; had he shunned folly and desisted,
They would have stoned him had the foolishness not disliked his terrible death,
His death would not have been wretched, nor his end appalling.
What an awful end and dreadful fate!

How many weep, their eyelids brimming with tears,
Numerous are those who cry until their eyelids are filled
For the host shattered by white, cleaving swords!
For the gathering of eggs the camels are burst open.

The women sheared their hair, and it was left behind,
The women tore their hair out and were clothed in mourning robes
While the House sings and the Hatim echoes the refrain.
While the house resounds with laments and the ruins echo it.

In which every monotheist finds delight.
In which every devout monotheist delights.

God is greatest; His decree cannot be turned back.
God is the Greatest - His decree cannot be reversed
He is our Lord, and to Him is our return.
He is our Lord, and to Him is our return.
