    وبغُصنِ البان يُزري

    My full moon rose to serve wine,

    And puts a bān-tree branch to shame.

  4. قلتُ يا روحي وعمري

    واصلني يا مليح

    I said: O my soul and my life,

    Grant me union, O fair one.

  5. يا مليحاً في عُلاه

    يحسد البدر سناه

    O fair one in his loftiness,

    The full moon envies his radiance.

  6. ليسَ في القلب سواه

    واصلني يا مليح

    There is no one in the heart but him.

    Grant me union, O fair one.

  7. إن بدري قد تجلى

    سلبَ العقلَ ووَلَّى

    Indeed, my full moon has shone forth,

    Stole reason and turned away.

  8. هكذا الصبُّ يُخَلَّى

    واصلني يا مليح

    Thus the lovesick lover is abandoned.

    Grant me union, O fair one.

  9. قدُّهُ لما تثني

    سلبَ الأرواحَ مِنَّا

    His figure, when it swayed,

    Stole our souls from us.

  10. رُبَّ لحظٍ فوقَ وجنَه

    واصلني يا مليح

    Many a glance above his cheek,

    Grant me union, O fair one.
