سِوى وَحل يَموج وَلا يَحولُ
We walked in lands where there is
Nothing but mud that surges and never shifts.

As though you were riding a ship whenever
The horses carried you through the mud’s channels.

I say to one sunk in the mud, crawling:
“Have you enjoyed going to and fro and resting at noon?”

If a young man is accustomed to wading into deadly perils,
Then mud is the easiest thing he passes through.
