O winds of dawn from the direction of the sanctuary,
O morning breezes blowing from the beloved's abode
You stirred rapture in me when you blew softly.
You excited me when you blew gently

And whenever I sought patience's help, it fled.
And when I seek patience, it flees

They have brought me news of my beloved,
News of my beloved came to me
And whispered it to my heart, which flared.
And confided it to my heart, so it blazed

Do you think he who wronged me will treat me justly,
Will he do me justice for this oppression?

When he shunned me and drew near to another
And I would ransom him with my life—the judge
And I ransom him with my soul, as justice decrees

The ruling of passions upon me, then he veiled himself
My sickbed visitors tired of me when the cure proved elusive.
The lover filled me when the medicine was scarce

And whenever I pass the night, my liver is a fire of lovesickness.
And my liver caught the fire of anguish
Who will shelter me from one so cruel in love?
Who will protect me from the wrongs of passion?

And struck my heart with rejection, so it blazed.
And casts coldness at my heart, so it flames

Whenever he turns away, love carries me further.
Whenever he spurns me, love intensifies in me
I said, when he warred against me, 'Alas, my misery!'
I said, as he fought against me and battled me

There is kinship between the body's sickness and the gaze.
Between bodily sickness and the sickness of glance, make a connection
Will you not honor the obligations of that kinship?
Do you not have mercy for that obligation?

O darkness of separation that has stoked the blaze,
O darkness of estrangement that ignited the flame

If my full moon appeared, I'd have no need for mirage

Indeed, whenever my heart melts, I love still more.

He gained nothing from his reproaches but weariness.
