O who will aid a distraught lover,
O you whose passion enslaves me,
who has melted away from his anguish?
Whose beauty melts my heart,

عcompletion of 'ardor' عَذولهِhis reprover بِجدالِهِwith disputing with him
Sickness is as enamored of him
Whose illness makes me sick, though
as his reprover is of wrangling with him.
I struggle against his rebellion.

لcompletion of 'minds' مِنfrom الوَرىhumankind بِجَمالِهِwith his beauty
And an unapproachable one has stolen the minds
His beauty almost prevents
of humankind with his beauty.
Me from seeing his perfection.

رcompletion of 'full moon' التمّfullness عِندَat كَمالِهِits perfection
The full moon has nearly matched him
Justice never occurs to me,
when it reaches perfection.
Nor does affection come to mind.

وَلاand not الحُنوّtenderness بِبالِهِin his mind
Fairness never crosses,
Lost in confusion,
nor tenderness, his mind.
Never free from his name and union.

In his arrogance, he sees an ill omen
I long for his imaginary images,
always, in the very name of union with him.
And for the star of his unavailability.
نَهوىwe long for طُروقa nighttime visit خَيالِهِhis phantom

We long for his phantom's nightly visit,
His imaginary images almost
yet even a star is easier to reach than he.
Prevent me from reaching out to them.

And he almost prevents even a visit
O Lord, his eyes have cut
to us by the phantom of his phantom.
My heart with their sharp blades.

O Lord, his gaze has cut through
And increased the darkness
my heart with the edge of its arrowheads.
With their most dark moles.

And what banished sound judgment and deepened
Why torture the ardent lover
my darkness was the blackness of his mole.
With his aloofness and indifference?
أَمعذبO tormentor of الصَبthe lovesick one العَليلailing
بِصَدِهِthrough his rejection وَمَلالِهِand his weariness
O tormentor of the ailing lover,
If you wanted blessings for the enamored worshipper,
through his rejection and weariness,
Hurry, for death to him is better than his state.
إِنif كُنتَyou are تَرغَبdesire فيfor المَنيdeath (first part)

If he could buy dreams,
for the distraught lover,
He would, with all his money.

نٌcompletion of 'ease' عِندَهُin his eyes مِنthan حالِهِhis condition
hasten it, for death is easier
So perhaps the lover would find peace
to him than his present plight.
In his death and disappearance.

If he could purchase death,
he would buy it for himself with his wealth.

For the lover may well find relief
in his death and passing away.
