وَفُؤادي بِالجَمر أَمسى مغشى
My body has become embroidered with wounds,
My body became decorated with wounds
And my heart has become shrouded in embers.
And my heart covered with burning embers

Separation has left nothing of me but
Nothing remains of me except
A tear—a lesson for whoever fears.
Tears, tears for those who fear

The loss of a beloved, the long night, and sleeplessness
For I have become accustomed to long nights and vigil
Have made sickness and wasting my bedding.
Illness and grief have become my bedfellows

When the full moon appears, I long for my own moon,
I wish that when the full moon appears
Or death, when the night grows still and closes in.
Or a dove when the night casts its shadow
