And through it my envier has gloated over me.

Every fire, to me, is like the Garden of Eden.

O my boon companion, banish my reason with remembrance of him,
So perhaps I may find rest if I am absent from myself.

Never was it as clear as his body, nor did it resemble it—
A raincloud's drop upon the mouths of daisies.

And the arak bough drew away when
It rose to imitate his stature by swaying.

He never appeared to me without my gazing, dumbfounded, at him
With my eyes, for my eyelid does not blink.

My lord, who will aid a heart that has melted for you
Between the fire of passion and the fire of unjust reproach?

ت وُقوع العَنقاءِ لِلمُتَعني
I long for your favor toward me; yet far beyond reach
Is the Anqa bird's alighting for one who toils.
