وفاءً لذكرى البؤس فيه مدى شهر

I returned to my prison as though returning to my grave,

I returned to my prison, my return to my grave,

Out of loyalty to the memory of a month's misery there.

Out of loyalty to the memory of misery in it for a month,

وقلـت لعـل الميـت اذ يحشرونه

وقلـت لعـل الميـت اذ يحشرونه

يعـود وفاءً بالعهود الى القبر

يعـود وفاءً بالعهود الى القبر

And I said: perhaps the dead man, when they bring him to Judgment,

And I said, perhaps the dead, when they are resurrected,

Will return to the grave, keeping faith with his pledges.

Will return out of loyalty to pacts, to the grave.
