ليَ طبعٌ في الشعر يملك حيناً

ليَ طبعٌ في الشعر يملك حيناً

ثم  يُثري  فيغتدي  ذا  سخاء

ثم يُثري فيغتدي ذا سخاء

I have a poetic nature that holds sway for a while,

My poetry has a nature that rules for a while

Then grows rich and becomes generous.

Then grows arrogant and turns generous

كم   معانٍ  لها  عليّ  حساب

كم معانٍ لها عليّ حساب

فأؤدّي   حسابها   في  الثراء

فأؤدّي حسابها في الثراء

How many meanings have a claim upon me!

So many meanings I owe

So I settle their account in times of wealth.

I will repay their due in richness

أقبِلوا  أيها  العطاشى سِراعاً

أقبِلوا أيها العطاشى سِراعاً

قبل  أن  ينتهي  معينُ  الماء

قبل أن ينتهي معينُ الماء

Come, O thirsty ones, quickly,

Come quickly, O thirsty ones

Before the spring of water runs dry.
