Hold back, our cousins, for you

Have gone too far astray; so restrain yourselves.

We are the trusted counselors in our assemblies

From of old—and we are dauntless, steadfast warriors,

Who strike the ram-like chief upon his helmet-crests,

    Though his protectors surround him in the battalion;

And who serve fat in great bowls, when

The winter winds and the biting cold wind blow.

Indeed I—by the Sacred Monument, and by that

To which Quraysh have made pilgrimage, and by what they have sacrificed—

Will accept no degrading terms, so long as

A stone of Taḍāruʿ can still be seen.
