وَاصَلُونِيthey reunited with me بَعْدَafter بُعْدِيmy separation
وَرَعُواand they honored سَالِفَformer عَهْدِيmy covenant
They reunited with me after my separation,
Keep in touch though we're apart
And honored my covenant of old.
And heed my covenant of old
وَعلَىand in رَغْمِspite of الحَسُودِِthe envious one

And despite the envious one,
Despite the envious at heart
They fulfilled their promise to me with reunion.
Fulfill your promise to uphold

My joy in our closeness
Oh, the bliss of my lot and good fortune!
My fortune and delight

My tears now flow as one
And be quenched, O fire of my longing.
My burning love subside

قَدْindeed صَفَاhas become clear مَوْرِدُthe watering place وِرْدِيmy coming to drink
I am in my night of intimacy;
On my night of bliss
The spring I drink from has now grown clear.
My trysting place purified
وَتَناولْتُand I took up كُؤُوسيmy cups
بَينamid رَيْحَانٍbasil وَوَرْدِand roses
And I took up my cups
I sipped from my cup
Amid basil and roses,
Amid basil and roses

From the hands of one sweetly swaying,
From hands soft and delicate
Enchanting, slender of figure.
Of a beauty with perfect poses
تَارَةًat times يُنْشِدُhe chants خُذْtake كَاسِيmy cup
وَطَوْراًand at other times هَاكَhere, take خَدِّيmy cheek
At times he chants, 'Take my cup,'
One moment “take my cup”
And at others, 'Here, take my cheek.'
Another “here is my cheek”
إِنْif أَقُلْI say يَاO أَلْفَa thousand مَوْلَىmaster

If I say, 'O master a thousand times over,'
If I say “O thousands beloved”
He says to me, 'O slave of mine a thousand times over.'
He says “O thousands your meek”
أَوْor سَقَىhe gives to drink المَمْزُوجَmixed wine غَيْرِيsomeone other than me
خَصَّنِيhe singles me out بالصِّرْفِwith unmixed wine وَحْدِيme alone
Or if he serves mixed wine to another,
Or if he gave the mixed wine to others
He favors me alone with wine unmixed.
He favored me alone to drink
فيin هَوَاهُlove for him دَعْleave off مَلاَمِيreproaching me

وَاطْرِحْand cast aside غَييِّmy error وَرُشْدِيand my right judgment
Cease reproaching me for loving him,
In his love forget my blame
And cast aside my error and my right judgment.
And cast off my sanity I think

The fire of my longing, in my love for him,
The fire of my love for him
Is to me like the bliss of eternity.
Is paradise everlasting for me
