قمْrise فاسْقِنِيthen give me to drink مِنْfrom يَدَيْكَyour two hands صَافَيةًclear wine
خَدُّكَyour cheek يَكْسُوclothes شُعَاعَهَاits radiance لَهَباin flame
Rise, and pour me clear wine from your hands;
Pour me a draught, pure from your hand
Your cheek clothes its radiance in flame.
whose cheek its brightness garbs in flame
كَأنَّas though مَاءَthe water الصَّفاءِof purity قَابَلَهَاmet it
مِنْكَfrom you ابتسامٌa smile فَمَثْلَand formed الحَبَباthe bubbles
As though the water of purity were greeted
As if the water of clear skies
By a smile from you, forming the bubbles.
met from your smile, like lover’s claim.
فَهَاso here أَنَاI فِيin الخُضُورِthe greenery مُنْتَهزtaking advantage of
ياO مُنْيَةَdesire of النَّفْسِthe soul غَيْبَةَthe absence of الرُّقَباthe watchers
So here I am amid the greenery, taking advantage—
And so I seize what green survives,
O desire of my soul—of the watchers’ absence.
though death has danced the heads and feet.
مِنْof عَجَبِwonder أنَّنِيthat I أَزيُدكI give you more مِنْof
شُرْبِيmy drink وَسُكْرِيand my drunkenness علىover قدْalready غَلَبَاhas prevailed
How strange that I give you more of
Amazed, that as my thirst expands,
My drink, though my drunkenness has already prevailed.
my drunkenness from you grows replete.
