غَزَالُgazelle الحَيِّthe clan مِنْfrom أَثَلاَتِtamarisk trees نَجْدِNajd
لِوَجْهِكَtoward your face وِجْهَتِيmy direction وَهَوَاكَand love for you قَصْديmy aim
O gazelle of the clan, from the tamarisks of Najd,
The gazelle of the desert from the glades of Najd
Toward your face I turn, and loving you is my aim.
To your face my orientation, to your love my goal
وَدَيْنُكَand your due فِيin مُدَاوَمَةِpersisting in التَّصَابِيyouthful passion
عَليَّupon me وَلِيand for me وَفِيand in قَبْلِيbefore me وَعِنْدِيand with me
And your claim, as I persist in youthful passion,
And your religion in continually drawing nearer
Is upon me, for me, in what precedes me, and with me.
Obligatory on me, and before me, and in my constitution
أَحِنُّI yearn إِذَاwhen تَبَسَّمَتِsmiled النُّعَامَىthe south wind

I yearn when the south wind smiles,
I yearn when the ostriches smile
Perfumed by the sweep of Hind's train.
Fragrant with the tail of an Indian drape
وَاَصْبُوand I yearn لِلصِّبَاfor the east wind النَّجْدِيof Najd إِذَاwhen مَاever (emphatic)

And I long for Najd's east wind whenever
And I pour for the Najdi youth when he travels
It drifts by night among moringa trees and sweet bay.
Between the sand dunes and soft land
وَمَعْشُوقُand the beloved الدَّلاَلِcoquetry يَغَارُis envious مِنْهُof him
مِنْamong الأَغْصَانِthe boughs كُلُّevery رَشِيقِgracefully slender قَدِّstature
And the coquettish beloved is envied
And the beloved of the guide is envied
By every bough of graceful, slender stature.
By every elegant branch of the gum trees

His glances gave the lovers a cup to drink,
His glances gave the lovers a cup
Which his beauty spot graced with a seal of perfume.
Gifted by his mole with the seal of nobility

So they savored in his love distracted
Without end and without limit.
With no end and no limit

My prayer is forever toward the qibla of his face,
To the kiss of his face always my prayers
And kissing the roses of his cheeks is my daily devotion.
And the kissing of roses from his cheeks my want
