لِمَعْنَايَfor my inward essence قَلْبِيmy heart نَحْوَكُمْtoward you أَبَداًforever يَصْبُوyearns
وَعِنْدِيand I have لَكُمْfor you وَجْدٌpassionate longing جَمِيعِيmy whole being لَهْto it نَهْبُprey
For my inward essence, my heart forever yearns toward you.
My heart's longing flows eternally towards you
And I harbor a passion for you to which my whole being is prey.
And I have a passion for you that utterly possesses me
وَمَاand not زَالَceased to be سَلْبِmy being despoiled فَيكُمُfor your sake وَاجِباًdue لَكُمْto you
وَفِيand in حُبِّكُمْlove of you يَاO سَادَتيmy masters يَجِبُis required السَّلْبُdespoiling
And my being despoiled for your sake has ever been your due;
Despoiling me for your sake remains an obligation
And in loving you, O my masters, despoiling is required.
And in loving you, my masters, despoilment is a must
غَدَاhas become وَصْفُكُمْyour description لِلْحُسْنِfor beauty ذَاتاًan essence فَشَمْسُكُمْso your sun
بكُمْthrough you مِنْكُمُfrom you فِيْكُمْwithin you لَهَاit has الشَّرْقُthe east والغَرْبُand the west
Your description has become beauty's very essence; thus your sun
Your beauty has become the very essence of beauty
through you, from you, within you, has its east and west.
So your sun, through you, in you, owns the east and west
تُحَرِّكُهَاmoves it الأَشْوَاقُlongings نَحْوَtoward جَمَالِكُمْyour beauty
فَتَمْنَعُهَاbut restrains it تِلْكَthat المَهَابَةُawe-inspiring majesty والحُجْبُand the veils
Longings move it toward your beauty,
It is stirred by yearnings for your perfection
But that majesty and the veils hold it back.
But is held back by that awe and those veils
فَلاَهِىso it is not يَغْشَاهَاenfolds it سُكُونٌstillness وَلاَnor تَرىَit sees
سَبِيلاًa path لِذَاحَاَرتْtherefore it grew bewildered فَدَاَرتْso it circled فَلاَso not تَنْبُوit veers away
So no stillness enfolds it, nor does it see
Distracted, lethargy descends on it, and it cannot see
a path; thus it grew bewildered and circled, never veering away.
A way, for when it spun it could find no orbit
تَدُورُit circles عَلَىat بُعْدٍa distance مِنَfrom المَرْكَزِthe center الَّذِيwhich

It circles at a distance from the center where
It revolves at a distance from the center
you are, since your very person is the pole.
Where you are, for your being is the axis,
فَلَوْand if قِيْسَتْwere measured الأَبْعَادُthe distances مِنْfrom كُلِّevery جَانِبٍside

And if the distances were measured from every side,
So if all dimensions on every side
They would be equal: neither distance nor nearness is sought.
Were equal, neither far nor near could be found
