شوقيmy longing إليكfor you عواصفٌstorms تجتاحنيsweep over me
فتثيرand so stir منّيof me العينthe eye والخفّاقاand the beating heart
My longing for you is storms that sweep over me,
Longings for you flood over me
and so stir my eye and my beating heart.
Stirring up my eyes and heart
ماذنبُwhat fault مشتاقٍof one who longs أضرّdid harm بهto him النوىseparation
لمّاwhen رآكhe saw you الآسthe myrtle والترياقاand the antidote
What is the fault of one who longs, whom separation has harmed,
What is the sin of a longing one hurt by pining
when he saw you as the myrtle and the antidote?
When affliction and remedy saw you
أقبلْcome فإنّيfor indeed I ماnot شكوتكَcomplained of you لائماًin blame
لكنbut لتملأَso that you fill غيهبيmy darkness إشراقاradiance
Come, for I have not complained of you in blame,
Come to me, for I have not blamed you as a critic
but so that you may fill my darkness with radiance.
But so you may fill my darkness with radiance
