In Rast, I chant the verses of love in measured recitation.

And in Sika, I sing longing in mawwals.

I ask poetry to rain down meters and rhyme,

Until it overflows with what I called down from it, becoming a Nile.

And I kindle the letter for lovers—a guiding fire,

And I light the soul for souls—a lamp.

This is who I am, and tears of passion mock me.

I wreathe patience with garlands of my patience.

I did not waver, even if they wavered, and such is my nature,

Even if they spread falsehoods about me.

My soul, which fashioned feathers and wings,

Rose high; neither those who spoke nor what was said harmed it.

Love is my heart's handhold; it cannot be broken.

And longing is my covenant; I have not altered it at all.
