Are striving, rich in giving and spreading it.

Your tenderness, I pray! How many wounds you have bandaged, how many groans

You have wiped away, and cares circling in the heart.

And how much sound counsel you have offered,

And so a discerning heart and mind sent it forth.

And how many a night I have spent watching its stars,

One care comes knocking at me, and another, and another.

So you shared my care with tenderness and wisdom,

And we rose in remembrance of God, our thoughts made clear.

We humbly appealed to the All-Merciful, in secret and aloud,

So a heart communes in whispers, or a tongue calls aloud.

We took refuge in the safety of prayer, and its safety is

Humble reverence, and those tears that rain down.

We went on, cleaving the path, with rocks before us

And its thorns; God is protector and helper.

A covenant with God is not spared by crushing calamities.

And faith is not sincere unless

Its desire runs to uphold truth—and truth is plain.

This is love's majesty, with which a young man goes forth,

So through it the world is watered, and consciences are quenched.
