يا قُدسُ! يَا نجْوى الزَّمان و لَهْفةَ الـ

يا قُدسُ! يَا نجْوى الزَّمان و لَهْفةَ الـ

أُفُقِ اُلمُطِلِّ على رُبَاكِ ! فأجْملي

أُفُقِ اُلمُطِلِّ على رُبَاكِ ! فأجْملي

O Jerusalem! O time's intimate whisper and the yearning of the

O Jerusalem! O whisper of time and yearning of the

horizon overlooking your hills! So be beautiful.

يَا قُدسُ ! يَا إشراقة الفَجْر النَّدِ

يَا قُدسُ ! يَا إشراقة الفَجْر النَّدِ

يِّ وبسمةً طَلَعتْ مَع الصُّبْحِ الجَلِي

يِّ وبسمةً طَلَعتْ مَع الصُّبْحِ الجَلِي

O Jerusalem! O radiance of the dewy dawn,

O Jerusalem! O dawn’s radiance, gentle

and a smile that rose with the clear morning.

And smiling, that rose with the glorious morn,

يَا قُدسُ! يَا عِطرَ الدُّهور ونفحةً

يَا قُدسُ! يَا عِطرَ الدُّهور ونفحةً

مَا جَت على الأمَلِ الغنيِّ المرفِلِ

مَا جَت على الأمَلِ الغنيِّ المرفِلِ

O Jerusalem! O fragrance of the ages and a fragrant breath

O Jerusalem! Fragrance of eras, a breeze

that surged over rich, splendidly robed hope.

That came upon the plentiful, rich, purple hope,

يا قُدسُ! يا رفَّ الحَنين وخَفْقةً

يا قُدسُ! يا رفَّ الحَنين وخَفْقةً

مِن كلِّ قَلبٍ خَاشعٍ متبتِّلِ

مِن كلِّ قَلبٍ خَاشعٍ متبتِّلِ

O Jerusalem! O flutter of longing and a heartbeat

O Jerusalem! Exaltation of longing and a throbbing

from every reverent heart devoted to worship.

From every humble, devout, sorrowing heart,

يا قُدسُ! يَا عَبَقَ الفُتُوحِ ونسمةً

يا قُدسُ! يَا عَبَقَ الفُتُوحِ ونسمةً

سَارَتْ بريَّا المِسْكِ فوحَ قُرنْفُلِ

سَارَتْ بريَّا المِسْكِ فوحَ قُرنْفُلِ

O Jerusalem! O fragrance of conquests and a breeze

O Jerusalem! Fragrance of conquest, a breeze

that drifted with musk's scent, the fragrance of cloves.

That blew with meadow musk and carnations’ scent,

يا قُدسُ ! يا نُورَ النُّبوَّةِ أشرقَتْ

يا قُدسُ ! يا نُورَ النُّبوَّةِ أشرقَتْ

في الدَّاجياتِ ويَا صَفاء المَنْهَلِ

في الدَّاجياتِ ويَا صَفاء المَنْهَلِ

O Jerusalem! O light of prophethood that shone

O Jerusalem! Light of prophecy that shone

in the dark nights, and O purity of the wellspring!

In thickets, and O purity of the fount,

كلُّ النُّبُواتِ التِي بُعِثَتْ سَعَتْ

كلُّ النُّبُواتِ التِي بُعِثَتْ سَعَتْ

شَوقاً إِليكِ بِنُورِهَا المُتَهلِّلِ

شَوقاً إِليكِ بِنُورِهَا المُتَهلِّلِ

All the prophetic missions that were sent forth hastened

All the prophecies that were sent sought

in longing to you, with their radiant light.

You fervently with their sparkling light,

كمَ أشرَقَتْ في كلِّ ساحٍ آيةٌْ

كمَ أشرَقَتْ في كلِّ ساحٍ آيةٌْ

للهِ تُنْبِئُ بالنَّبي ِّ الأَكْمَلِ

للهِ تُنْبِئُ بالنَّبي ِّ الأَكْمَلِ

How often there shone, in every open space, a sign

Many a sign of God shone on each plain

of God, heralding the most perfect Prophet!

Telling of the most perfect Prophet,

فَإِليكِ أُسْريَ بالنَّبيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ

فَإِليكِ أُسْريَ بالنَّبيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ

لِيَؤُمَّهُمْ! يَا للإِمامِ الأعدلِ

لِيَؤُمَّهُمْ! يَا للإِمامِ الأعدلِ

So to you the Prophet Muhammad was taken by night,

So to you ascended with the Prophet Muhammad,

to lead them in prayer—what a supremely just imam!

To lead them in prayer, O most just Imam,

ثُمَّ ارتَقَى لمعارِجٍ موصُولةٍ

ثُمَّ ارتَقَى لمعارِجٍ موصُولةٍ

بَلَغتْ بهِ أَعلى رُؤَى أو مَنْزِلِ

بَلَغتْ بهِ أَعلى رُؤَى أو مَنْزِلِ

Then he ascended by interconnected stairways

Then he climbed the connected stairs

that brought him to the loftiest visions or abode.

That took him to the highest place or lodging,

دارٌ مبارَكَةٌ و أنفاسُ الهُدى

دارٌ مبارَكَةٌ و أنفاسُ الهُدى

فيها على رَوْضٍ أَغَنَّ مُظَلَّلِ

فيها على رَوْضٍ أَغَنَّ مُظَلَّلِ

A blessed abode, and the breaths of guidance

A blessed abode, and breaths of guidance

are there, over a lush, shaded garden.

In it, over a meadow, thickest shade,

المسْجد الأقْصَى بِساحك! يا له

المسْجد الأقْصَى بِساحك! يا له

من مَسْجِدٍ بِهُدَى العُصُور مُجَلَّل

من مَسْجِدٍ بِهُدَى العُصُور مُجَلَّل

Al-Aqsa Mosque is in your precinct—what a

The Aqsa Mosque on your plain - what a

mosque, mantled with the guidance of the ages,

Mosque it is, with the guidance of eras adorned,

بالحقِّ بالإسلام بالدين الذي

بالحقِّ بالإسلام بالدين الذي

حَمَلتْهَ كلُّ نُبُوَّة أو مُرْسَل

حَمَلتْهَ كلُّ نُبُوَّة أو مُرْسَل

with truth, with Islam, with the faith that

With truth, with Islam, the religion that

every prophetic mission or messenger bore!

Every prophecy and messenger conveyed,

طاف الجَمال بكلِّ أرضٍِ وانْتَهى

طاف الجَمال بكلِّ أرضٍِ وانْتَهى

لرُبَاكِ مَجْلوّاً ! فَقِيل هُنا انْزِلِ

لرُبَاكِ مَجْلوّاً ! فَقِيل هُنا انْزِلِ

Beauty roamed through every land and came at last

Beauty toured every land and came

to your hills, unveiled! Then it was told, 'Settle here!'

To your hills, welcomed - So alight here, they said

وإذا رباك غَنيَّةٌ خَفقَ الهوى

وإذا رباك غَنيَّةٌ خَفقَ الهوى

في كلِّ ركنٍ بالجلال مُكلَّل

في كلِّ ركنٍ بالجلال مُكلَّل

And behold, your hills were rich; love throbbed

And when your hills were song, passion stirred

in every corner, crowned with majesty.

In every nook, crowned with majesty,

أرضَ الملاحِم حدّثي عن أُمَّةٍ

أرضَ الملاحِم حدّثي عن أُمَّةٍ

تركَتْك في أسْرٍ شَدِيد مُثْقِلِ

تركَتْك في أسْرٍ شَدِيد مُثْقِلِ

O land of epic battles, tell of a nation

O land of epics, tell of a nation

that left you in harsh, crushing captivity.

That left you fettered, heavily burdened,

أرض الملاحِم حدِّثي عَنْ غافِلٍ

أرض الملاحِم حدِّثي عَنْ غافِلٍ

مُسْتَسْلمٍ أو جاهِلٍ مُتَنَصِّل

مُسْتَسْلمٍ أو جاهِلٍ مُتَنَصِّل

O land of epic battles, tell of one heedless,

O land of epics, tell of one heedless,

surrendering—or one ignorant, evading responsibility.

Submissive or ignorant, shirking and evasive,

طيبي فلسطينُ الحبيبَة أشْرقي

طيبي فلسطينُ الحبيبَة أشْرقي

أملاً تجَدِّده الدّماء وهلِّلي

أملاً تجَدِّده الدّماء وهلِّلي

Be glad, beloved Palestine; shine

My sweet Palestine, shine hope

with hope that blood renews, and rejoice!

Renewed by blood, and chant merrily,

ستَظلُّ أرضُك بالملاحم ساحَةً

ستَظلُّ أرضُك بالملاحم ساحَةً

للمؤمنين وعَهْدَ يوم مُقْبِل

للمؤمنين وعَهْدَ يوم مُقْبِل

Your land will remain, amid epic battles, an arena

Your land will remain an arena of epics

for the believers, and a pledge of a day to come.

For the faithful, and the promise of a coming day,

سَتَظَلُّ أرضُكِ بالملاحم شُعْلَةً

سَتَظَلُّ أرضُكِ بالملاحم شُعْلَةً

لتَشُقَّ مِنْ ظُلُماتِ لَيْلٍ ألْيَلِ

لتَشُقَّ مِنْ ظُلُماتِ لَيْلٍ ألْيَلِ

Your land will remain, amid epic battles, a flame

Your land will remain, with epics, a flame

to cleave a path out of the darkness of a pitch-black night.

To cleave the darkness of a long night,

لا تيأسي! فالأُفْقُ مزْدَحِمٌ بطلْـ

لا تيأسي! فالأُفْقُ مزْدَحِمٌ بطلْـ

ــعَةِ أُمَّةٍ موصولةٍ لمْ تُجْهَل

ــعَةِ أُمَّةٍ موصولةٍ لمْ تُجْهَل

Do not despair! For the horizon is crowded with the rise

Despair not! The horizon teems with the rising

of a nation bound together, not unknown,

Of a connected nation not to be Ignored,

وكتائبٍ مَرْصُوصَةٍ لا تَنْثني

وكتائبٍ مَرْصُوصَةٍ لا تَنْثني

إلا على نَصْرٍ أعزَّ و أجْمَلِ

إلا على نَصْرٍ أعزَّ و أجْمَلِ

and tightly ranked battalions that do not turn back

And serried squadrons that will not bend

except with a mightier and more beautiful victory.
