ولا تَفشِيَن سرّاً إلى غَيرِ حِرزه

ولا تَفشِيَن سرّاً إلى غَيرِ حِرزه

ولا تُكثِرِ الشَّكَوى إلى غَيرِ عابِدِ

ولا تُكثِرِ الشَّكَوى إلى غَيرِ عابِدِ

And never disclose a secret to anyone who cannot keep it safe.

And do not complain too much to anyone who is not devout.

فيا رُبَّ مِن شَجنٍ يَسُرُّكَ شامِتاً

فيا رُبَّ مِن شَجنٍ يَسُرُّكَ شامِتاً

ومَولَى وإن قَرّبتَهُ مُتبَاعِدِ

ومَولَى وإن قَرّبتَهُ مُتبَاعِدِ

How many a grief delights you when you are gloating,

and how many an ally stays distant though you draw him near.

ومَعذِرَةٍ جَرَّت إلَيكَ مَلاَمَةً

ومَعذِرَةٍ جَرَّت إلَيكَ مَلاَمَةً

وطارِفِ مالٍ هاجَ إتلافَ تالِدِ

وطارِفِ مالٍ هاجَ إتلافَ تالِدِ

And an excuse has brought blame upon you,

and newly gained wealth has stirred the squandering of inherited wealth.
