  1. يا رب سابغة حبتني نعمة

    كافأتها بالسوء غير مفندِ

    Oh, many a full-length coat of mail has bestowed a kindness on me;

    I repaid it with harm, yet without reproach.

  2. أضحت تصون عن المنايا مهجتي

    وظللت أبذلها لكل مهند

    It came to shield my lifeblood from death,

    While I kept offering it to every Indian-forged sword.
