  1. منيت بمن إذا منيت أفضت

    مناي إلى بنفسج عارضيهِ

    I was afflicted with one; whenever I was given hope,

    My hopes led me to the violet of his cheeks.

  2. وفاضت رحمة لي حين ولى

    مدامع كاتبي وكاتبيه

    And, in pity for me, when he turned away, there overflowed

    The tears of my two scribes and his two.
