And a field where horses roam—
And a field where horses roam,
they lead the armored men, yet are not led.
Leading the armor-clad, yet not themselves led.

Across it toward delights, I rode a noble steed;
There I rode a steed toward pleasures,

With a body, but no heart.

It raced on, so I imagined the land a face,
It ran, so I thought the earth a face,
and the Tigris its pupil—that face being al-Sawād.
And the Tigris an eye, and it the black pupil.
